For sale - CHEAP -

2 160mm (6 inch) "Clean Sweep" rotors. These are not perfectly straight, but can be aligned. Great for a second set of wheels or for someone trying to go to disc on a budget. $10 Each ($20 for both) New these are $30 each!

1 185mm (7 inch) Avid Clean Sweep 6 bolt rotor - This is 99% straight, I think there is a slight wave in it, but not noticable. Just got it from MOAB but wasnt' the right size. (I needed 8 inch) $15 (these are $40 new)

1 6 inch Avid Polygon rotor (the cool one with the wavy style cut). This one is not perfect either, but has lots of life in it. $10 (These are $35 new)

Hey Tim! Any chance the 7 inch rotor comes with the caliper mounts too? Not a big deal, I guess those can be found anywhere?

Do you, or does anyone else know if that Avid Clean Sweep rotor can be use with Avid Juicy Carbons?

If so - I may take you up on this one. There's a small chance my brake pads are just glazed over on the truth (haven't looked into it too much - but the stopping power is NOTHING like that of the 8 inch rotor on the bigger bike!! I seriously noticed it when trying to slow down after flying down long steep(ish) hills at chickasaw trace. It really took a lot of braking power to get that front brake to slow the bike - unlike the simple squeeze of the other bike.

Reed - As much as I'd like to sell these, I don't think you wan to put a 7 inch rotor on your Truth. The rotational weight would offset the better braking. You do get better braking with the 8 - more mechanical advantage from the prespective of where the brake is grabbing (high into the radius of the wheel) and it won't heat up as fast.

I think your brakes need to seat in and/or may need some brake cleaner if when you build your bike too much oil from your fingers got on the rotor.

You can get spacer kits, and buying my rotor will be cheaper - about $20 cheaper so if you want to, I won't stop you, though I don't think it's necessary. Let me know sucka!

What do the super mechanics think about this? Holstein?

The bounty hunter likes 7" rotors on the front. I don't think they weight all that much more, and the weight is close to the hub, so it's not as bad as heavy tires or heavy rims.

That being said, lots of people get by with 6" rotors and Reed's bike is pretty new, so they may bed in more and get better.

I tried running a 6" rotor up front for a few rides when I first bought the Soma. I hated it and quickly got a 7".

my 2cents...

I know for a fact, that did not happen!:thumb:

hahah Reed build his bike? That's funny....

sorry Reed, but it is!

I saw give the bigger rotor a shot. Worst case senario, you don't think it helps and you sell the rotor and bracket.

That's the way it should be. The question is...do you want your Ferrari to handle like your Hummer? Well you can't do that.

In other words, you have a race bike and a play bike. Weight is not an issue with your play bike, therefore you can do whatever it takes to make it fun, with big strong brakes, big suspension, etc.
With your race bike, you obviously have to make certain sacrifices to keep it light.
I think to a certain degree you have become a little spoiled with the big brakes. I know I have. Before I had disc brakes, the Avid Arch Supreme rim brakes on my race bike seemed like more braking power than I could ever need. Now that I've gotten used to the disc brakes(7" up front, 6" in the rear), the rim brakes seem weak.

Just my two pennies.

Uzzi, I am interested in the Polygon rotor, but right now I am flat broke. If you still have it in a month, I'll take it. Thanks:)

Well I didn't think so, and I know REED certainly has not been taking his wheel off himself, even to change a flat, so HE couldn't have gotten oil on the rotors.

I think the Bounty Hunter is right. It won't add that much weight. You will actually go faster if you can stop faster...

? - 1 = Make sure you get the AVID Mount for 185mm, Hayes, Hope, and others will not fit - Hayes is 178mm and Hope is 180mm and all of the 7" rotors in the industry are different! Hope, for example, makes 140mm, 160mm 165mm, 180mm, 183mm, 185mm, 200mm, 203mm, and 205mm.

? - 2 = Yes! Just get the right bracket!

Travis is right! I almost went to Cumberland and bout a Hayes rotor but he informed me if would not fit- it was like a 178 and I thought I needed 185. If you think about it, going from 6 inch to 7 inch only puts a half inch on each side of the radius. Going from 6 to 8 though is HUGE!!

Yep, just takes some careful ordering.

I use Hope Gothic rotors with my Avid Mechanicals. 185mm front and 160 rear. They work fine. I did shim the rear up a couple MM when I put in new EBC pads so the contact area would match up better. Nothing a couple washer's couldn't fix.

Hope makes some trick stuff!! Anyone wanna donate a Mono M4 and a Mono Mini to their "protection fund"? I promise to watch your car in the parking lots and bust any would be criminals, even before they break the law! I can forward on my paypal info if you're interested! :spy: :chewie0ol:

how worn are the 160mm rotors. as for them being a little bent, i've yet to find a strait pair. I may take them. I want an extra set for an extra set of wheels and this sounds like a good deal.

Adam -

I don't know how to test for wear, but they certainly seem to have plenty of life in them - they are certainly worth 10 bucks a piece.

Obviously deep scoring is bad - but in the very middle of the pad sweep area, this will wear in a concave fashion, and can get VERY thin towards the center of this area... :thumb:

By the way - We stock 7" Front upgrades kits for Avid and Hayes with the proper brackets!

Sorry for the delay in response about this Tim!! I think I'm gonna try de-glazing the pads before I consider the new rotors. The brakes are definitely 'wore-in'...They've been through about 15 rides at this point, most of which 10+ mile rides, etc...

They're working "fine", and they definitely stop me. They'll lock up, allow nose-wheelies, and all that - they just seem to make me work a lot harder to stop when riding up to a corner at the bottom of a steep (20+ mph) hill. I've cleaned the rotors a few times with alcohol, and they do get better, just nothing like the 8 inch rotors on the heavier bike.

I haven't looked at the pads at all - and I've heard several times I should sand the pads a bit and see how that goes...

All that said - thanks for the offer Tim!! If for some crazy reason the pads getting sanded a bit don't fix the problem, I may give you a call and find out if you've still got the rotor!!
