I just wanted to give a shout out to Darryl (DirtDog) at Sun and Ski! I've been trying all sorts of way to work on my bike at home when replacing a chain or just adjusting the rear derailer by using bungee cords hanging from the garage door tracks or using a clothes line to hold the bike up. I finally decided to go ahead and spend some money and see what I could find for a bike stand. I was planning on going to MOAB here in the Boro, but since my wife was wanting to shop at the mills today I thought I would see what they had. I met Darryl for the first time and he explained what they had. Im used to seeing Park Stands on the net so that's really the only name I knew (Since I'm still very new here), but he showed me these stands made by ultimate support. There are different levels and I chose to buy the Sport-Mechanic which is not as fancy as the other they had in the store, but I figured it would work for me since I didn't use it everyday. Darryl was nice enough to hold it for me and my wife picked up after she was done shopping.
The real surprise came when I got home and took it out of the box. It's REALLY nice!!!! I am impressed. I thought I would get some mostly plastic thing with a few metal parts since I wasn't spending $200 or more, but I was pleasantly surprised. It seems to be very well built and should last me forever.
I just wanted to share a very pleasant bike parts shopping experience.

I have an Ultimate Support stand too. You're gonna love it, it rocks! :thumb: It amazes me sometimes how stable the stand is when I have my bike tilted in weird positions (keep it clean boys).

Darryl is a really good guy! If someone would kindly give me some money to spend I would use it at Sun and Ski also  I am getting tired of being broke. Anyway. I know you will enjoy your new stand, its makes ALL the difference in proper bike maintenance and cleaning care!

Ultimate is a great product - they also make a whole slew of music support stands. A WHOLE SLEW!!!
And Sun and Ski has been there for me as well!

Got my Park from Hap--Skedaddle Bike Shop, anybody remember them?
FINALLY got around to putting a substantial base on it recently. Heavy steel plate--about 60# worth. Mo' better.

Great to meet you and your family Matt. Glad you like the stand. They are a great deal and a cool company up in Fort Collins.
Hope to see you on the trail. Plenty of events and rides this spring. Some will be great family events too. That young man of yours will be on the trail before you know it.
Happy New Year!
That is why I shop at Sun and Ski! They take the extra effort to get me what I want. I wanted an Intense. Darryl said "We aren't an Intense dealer, but I'll make some calls." 2 weeks later, a new Intense was in my garage. Needed an Intense BMX bike - this took some working, but he got me the bike I wanted. So far I've bought 4 bikes from them and tons of other parts. Sun and Ski makes it happen! They have the connections and Darryl has been the industry long enough and seems to know everyone.

I've been using a Ultimate stand for 2+ years and it's been great. I picked mine up from Sun and Ski(Daryl) as well.
Oh, good point Travis! I also use an Ultimate stand for my guitars:thumb:

PVC pipe is such a useful material...

I'm surprised there hasn't been a car made out of PVC pipe. There probably has. I thought about trying to make one myself and then I thought about what I wanted:
Being able to fold it up
Being able to rotate the bike
Sturdiness and Durability
and most importantly, having one that actually works!
I decided it was best to spend the money on a stand where someone else had already done all the R&D.
Thanks for all the info guys.
