As many of you know I had a nasty moutain bike accident at Hammy Nov. 20th where I cut my bersa sack completely open horizontally and a second cut vertically on my right knee. I was on crutches for 4 weeks and couldn't use my right leg at all. It has been a long road to recovery & being sick almost 4 weeks of the last two months I haven't been able to ride much. Any suggestions on strengthening the knee joint and also getting my strength back in that leg. There is a sizable difference between the two legs in muscle tone, my right knee still gets sore even though my doctor says no ligament damage occured and I don't know what to do. This is very frustrating and I suggest you all wear knee gaurds if you ride Hammy right after the fall leaves drop as this is my first bad moutain bike accident since I've been moutain bike since 1985 (hint, hint)! Amazing how the leaves hide rocks!
Any suggestions because I am still trying to ride fast and I am puking my good leg and the right leg just doesn't seem to keep up?

SLOW. Give everything time to heal. Use it, but don't ride through the pain. Stop for pain.
Lots of easy riding with plenty of stretching and recovery time.
Good luck and don't push it.
I'm not a doctor, but have played one behind closed doors.

I agree with the SLOW approach. the last thing want to do is do more damage or reverse healing and screw up this whole season. You'll get there, just take it easy for bit.
Good luck.

I messed my knee up from football and was told it would be a bad idea to participate in a sport tha has a high impact on your knees.
Here is what I did
Learn to balance on that leg again:
Stand on that leg only
Wash Dishes on that leg
Put clothes on with that leg
Cook while standing on that leg
brush teeth/shave on that leg
Some helpful hints:
Your other leg can be used to help with your balance simply by moving it in one direction. Same with your arms. Try it out.
Get your strength up:
(if you can do a deep knee bend)
squats without weights (go for reps)
Then I snuck into the gym and did leg curls and extensions for reps and speed. I worked until I got both legs equal in strength.
Things that you do need to know:
1. Your knee will never be normal again. You can get it back to 95% of what it was, but it just wont be the same. The faster you realize this, the faster you will recover. Recovery is more mental then physical in my opinion.
Have fun ride when you can, but stick to the roads and don't do stupid things me such as, but not limited to; Clipping trees, faceplants, wheelies, one wheeled endos, and much more.
Give it some time and you will be kicking again. :thumb:

Problem solved. I took my road bike to Biker's Choice yesterday. We made some adjustments and problem solved. I rode today and had at least a 2mph average gain and no knee pain. Not sure how the seat slid down, but after raising it and pushing it back some it is now perfecto. Thank you David!
I was literally a phone call away from calling my orthopedist and David Hardin solved my knee pain! If any of you want to realize your potential on the bike give Biker's Choice a call. Phone: 822-2512
