Previously they have let you camp along the road - which is usually closed for the races.

Hillman Ferry is nearby (about 10 miles +/-) and is very nice.

Thanks Steve, I didn't see anything on the W&W site except motels.

I've camped up there both times---but I don't remember where. It was a few miles away.

maybe if fuel goes up, campers will get cheap and we can party in the parking lots!

but then, gotta have money to buy camper...

always something.:more_cowbell::wink::big_grin::thumb:

i dont know (doubt it) if they will close the scenic drive and allow camping like the do for the 12hr race. like caveman says hillman is pretty close and there is a corps campground (i think its called "canal") thats a little closer on the other side of the canal. easy riding distance from the start!:thumb:

As mentioned about the scenic drive. It should be closed to all but race traffic. Just down the hill from the start on this drive is a field/parking area on the left. Loads of people have camped in there before including myself. This isn't an official camping area but two port-o-johns should be there. No power, showers, water, etc. It's just a grass semi-gravel field. It is right next to the trails entrance and most likely will be open to camping. That's where we plan to put a camper unless things have changed.

Real camping sites are a few miles away if you prefer them.

I think Diesel is right about the drive being open during the race. Now that I think about it I remember some guy on a Harley just meandering down the hill with us racing up behind him to hit the trail. people yelled at him to stop just before the trail and just as we got to him.

If it is closed drive around the cones and park / camp where I mentioned. Some will park/set-up pits on the right side of the road heading down to the trail also.

What is the trail like?

The trail is about 11 miles long, mostly singletrack. You'll hit the hills about 2.5 miles into the lap, have about 3 miles of those, then it's mostly flat w/ a few rollers the rest of the way. It's a pretty sweet trail.

As far as camping goes, if you plan on camping at Hillman Ferry, I would call ahead and reserve a spot. Once the weather starts staying nice, the campground fills up if you want water/electric. If you look up Land Between the Lakes on the web, you should be able to find out info about the campsite.

Jennifer is right. Climbs in the beginning and then mostly fast trail that seems to to just hold on to your tires.

I'll only say one thing. The descent right after the fire tower has jump on the right near the bottom or you can bypass on the left. If you like to jump hit it but will launch you. Sometimes they have someone taking pictures there. It'll surprise you if you aren't expecting it.

Fun trail. Really worth doing.

I've only ridden this trail once (last summer), but I loved it! :thumb:
Can't wait for the race. :more_cowbell:
