Thought I should go on and join as I have enjoyed the board as a lurker for some time. I am a novice/intermediate rider and would enjoy hitting the trails with folks that dont mind having a fat out of shape guy come along.

Are most of the group rides a hammer fest, I don't want to tag along and then feel bad holding up the pack?

Group rides are NEVER a hammer fest - unfortunately for guys like me that can only escape for a few hours! I wish they were - they are more social - which is totally fine. You should NOT go to a group ride thinking it will be over quickly they usally are a stop fest - not a hammer fest! That is not a bad thing though. I've mellowed out and enjoy the moderate paced fun rides that are posted here. I've made a lot of good friends by showing up for group rides that are posted here.

There is always one or two "Ambassadors" that will hang back with anyone who is slow, has a flat or is having a heart attack.

This is one of the most welcoming groups I've ever met. Post up, you'll find some one to ride with. Don't worry, we have all levels of riders here.

Hello Fasttalkintn!!

Just wanted to stop by and echo everyone's thoughts so far - there are completely varying levels of riders who frequent the nmb board, and generally - if it's going to be a 'slamfest', it's stated as so. Usually, someone randomly posts that they want to go for a ride, and people join in for the ride if they're free!!

You'll find group training rides, fun rides, urban/city rides, learning rides, etc...From the sounds of it - you'll fit right in!!!
