On the larger group work days will there be the possibility of making any 'go-arounds' for the addition of rock drop lines, or tree crossing fun, etc...? Many of us are excited about the new trail opportunity, but wondering if there will be any user input allowed or if it's all just gonna be pre-determined lines and trail directions?

Thanks!! Love the updates and the forward momentum SORBA is showing with this stuff!!

Reed, by the time we get a gang of eager but unseasoned trail building volunteers, we better have the work laid out pretty well. However, during layout, we probably could use a consultation from some riders that like the more extreme stuff. I am always trying to figure out how to minimize fall line sections so we are not always repairing, and trying to make smooth turns and such so the trail has good flow potential. I am sure that I do not have the same eye for challenge spots that you would have. So far, I have not seen one rock in the existing alignment, so even armoring a ditch crossing will be a challenge, might have to haul in rocks. There are some large trees and some are down, so maybe we can figure some stuff out to use them. Maybe we can meet you and some buddies and walk the first proposed section soon and get some more input.

PS: appreciate the acknowledgement of the work that SORBA is doing. I hope everybody realizes that we cannot get more trail without this club functioning with lots of active participants.

We (I) did not even know that they existed. That being said, we had to walk routinely walk 1/4 mile to the job site, and I dont think folks would have wanted to carry one, from what I have heard. The early stuff on Cane Ridge is near the road so far.

The trailhead is going to be at the overflow parking lot for the radio controlled airplane flying field. Follow signs to the RC field, but before you get there, look for about a 25 car parking lot on the right. The trail start is easy to find. Go down trail about 50 ft. then wander off to the right, and pick up the cleared trail, very obvious.

We will be working again Saturday March 24, 8-12. Look for more info in SORBA section of this forum. This trail is beginning to shape up. Thanks to the 10 hardy souls that came out last weekend. We had a great time "playing in the dirt".

Filled it out. Searched the forums for info on the Percy Warner project... Couldn't find anything. Anybody have a link to more info on that one?

    Update on Cane Ridge 4-21-12

Thanks to those that came out yesterday. David Broemel and I got two of the cedar logs in position and secured to piles for one of the creek crossings. Did not have any decking yet, but bridge is ready to deck. 3-4 worked on lopping and ran two brush cutters all morning to keep the corridor open. Darryl and Jose worked some on a problem area where we have some muddy trail trying to figure a re-alignment. Sprinkled on us just a bit early, then cleared off. Good day to work.

I live in Dist 31. Emailed the local Rep thanking them for the trail. They responded with a "your welcome". That was easy. Thanks Jose.

Thanks for reaching out to your local councilperson...without our voices together, we would not have been able to achieve 3 new locations for trails in Davidson County.
At the time, Councilman Parker Toler was the councilperson who was in office and he was INSTRUMENTAL in our access into Cane Ridge Park.

Fabian Bedne is now the councilperson in District 31 as you know.

If anyone else would like to thank him and urge for Metro Park funding for this new trail his email is: fabian.bedne@nashville.gov

Again, it is our chorus of voices that make things change, not solo ones.....

We had eight hardworking volunteers. We finished 1500 ft. That means benching and grooming to final trail. I checked on my map on AutoCad, and estimated the location of our stopping. We have finished 3700 ft. The loop is about 2 miles or 10,560 ft. So if we get 1500 ft per weekend, we need 6 more to finish. Might go some faster, now that we are out of the steeper terrain. At least 4 more weekends I would say (for Phase 1).

Next workday is 6-23-12. We will try 8am-1pm again. Not all could stay that long, but it is nice to make the most of the day. I do recommend bringing a snack. It makes it easy to work on past noon.

We do have a Boy Scout who is doing 4 short bridges for us for his Eagle project. That should be going on in the next 3-4 weeks.

You guys and the Scouts have done an awesome job with this trail. It's a ton of fun and it has me inspired to find one of the next trail days to continue your great work. Thanks for all you've done!

Thanks for the compliments. We give it our best effort. Lots of folks involved on this. Appreciate that you want to help. We need enthusiastic trail builders.

Believe me when I say, this trail building is (almost as) addictive as riding.
