    After entering the trail head go Left. We have put up little yellow plaques on some trees along the race course that read: Race loop. So every time you come to an intersection slow down and look around for these little signs. They are not that big. So look carefully. But, we are lucky the park allowed us to leave those up premanently. It's about a 8.5 mile loop. Good luck.

    The race loop is alot tougher than just the Yellow trail.. Actually the race loop is most of the Yellow trail, the back blue trail and some of the green as well... Its a hard trial to ride... Charlottes ridge will definately get your legs burning unless your super man!! Then you still have to look forward to all the climbing leading up to flume zoom and chain reaction.... Whew justing thinking about it make me winded.. Headed out to MB sunday myself.

    Adam is not Johnny5

    Johnny5 = Thad (26er Moots)
    Meanjoe = Adam (29er Moots)

    Both are fast dudes, so it's easy to mix them up as they fly past you homer...

    Just be glad we took out Heart Break Ridge and the Goat path. We actaually had those two climbs in the race course the first two years. They really hurt at race pace. Then Joe Sweeney and myself came up the current race loop. Just added a few cut thurs to lessen the damage a little.

    Love Charlotte's Ridge. Mainly cause it's named after my beloved dog Charlotte who passed away last year.

    Jeff: Glad that you set record straight...

    ... about tough hills that are not in the race course.

    There are several tough hills that are not in the race loop. As you come out of green, down by the creek, if you take the left fork just past the yellow boundary line entrance, you climb up a steep and rocky trail called Heartbreak Hill. Back in the first race, that climb went up even higher, and then descended nearly straight down. This trail had a live tree across it at the bottom, on the ground, that would flip many a racer into the blackberry bushes, down the hill. A pretty bad wreck if it happened to you. We changed that section after that first year, and it is much more ridable.

    Also, Goat Path is still quite a challenge. Try it some time if you have not done it. It takes you down to the same point as the bottom of Charlottes Ridge, but climbs up with some challenging dips and steep climbing turns. Always fun to see if I can do without a dab. Takes about 5-7 min. to do, so not too far off of your path, if you are just running the race course usually.

    Another tough part is the return up the hill that you normally descend at the Moguls section. On your way out on the Green, Main Trail, if you go left from the (Ferngully in the map) creek instead of the Mogul Return trail, there are several steep switchbacks and steep "claw your way up" climbs in that section. I always run it when I am in there.

    Monkey Grinder race date

    The TBRA website has the race dates. They are September 11 and 12. On Sept. 11, it lists 'Monkey Grinder - Short Track' and on Sept. 12 it lists 'Monkey Grinder - XC'. Can someone explain the difference? Thanks

    I think it may be a time trial. One lap on the race course, hammer down all the way around.
