looking for mountain bike trail near gatlinburg

I'll be down in Gatlinburg the first week of August and I'm looking for a couple trails in the area. Any suggestions.

Not sure what you consider close, but Tsali is about an hour drive. Well worth the drive once you have purchased your quota of air brush T shirts and funnel cakes.

Otherwise, Knoxville's as close as it gets. Haw Ridge, maybe. As I understand it, there's some antiquated rule in the national park that restricts trails from use by non-motorized vehicles, or some such. Probably intended to keep wagons off the trails. Whoda thunk someone woulda wanted to ride a bicycle on a mountain??

Cades Cove loop is fun - they have a morning that is car free. The best time is early during the week. It's about an 11 mile loop and quite fun.

Panther Creek SP isn't too far away either.

Pick up a copy of the MTB Trail Mini Adventures book (not sure of the exact name) Great maps, descriptions, and photos.

I found some info on Tsali on the web but was hoping to find something closer. I'll check out the other suggestions as well. Thanks for the help.

Knoxville is going to be the closet for trail riding. They do not allow bikes on the trails in the park.
