Cane Ridge Park - Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day - IMBA/SORBA event Oct 6, 2012

Everyone is invited to come out and bring your young ones. Tell the neighbors and friends. There will be ride clinics and led rides around the new 2 mile loop. Please pre-register at http://sorbamidtn.org/2012/08/tkmbd-2/ It is free, but we would like to have an idea of the number planning to attend.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is a national IMBA/SORBA event.

This is also going to be the official Grand Opening of the Cane Ridge MTB Trail. Short appearance by the Mayor is planned. This should be great public exposure for our sport. We need volunteers to help too. (this is only Phase 1 of 3 phases. Total planned trail is 9 miles.)

I'm in. Just finished the new entrance - smooth and fast! There will be some tread tweaks before opening day. Come on out and support a great local event. Phase I is smooth and fast - read low root density. Cheers! D.

I've noticed many kids 6-16 on Phase I recently. It's definitely family friendly - kids will love it. Bring the family 06 Oct 2012.

I hope to be there but won't be riding. I have a baby due on Oct 7.... so I'll either be taking care of a new baby or on pins and needles waiting for her to get here.

Oh, and if anyone had any grand hopes of riding here this labor day weekend, scrap the plans. It rained like mad here yesterday and had been raining most of the morning.

For reference, I'm 1 mile from the trailhead as the crow flies.

Yes, this trail is two miles of AWESOME! Great job Sorba on the design and flow of this trail! I have been bringing my 10 and 9 year old daughters out there and they can do the whole 2 miles with no problems. There are some challenges for kids - and adults as well. I have been riding out there as well, great place to blow out 3 or 4 laps and get some miles in!

I want to give this event some Bump!

Oct 6, is just two weekends after this coming one, so we need all to be inviting our casual semi-biking friends with children to come and see what a mountain biking trail is all about. Of course regular riding kids are encouraged as well and could be leading some trips around the 2-mile loop. We have almost finished an 800 ft kids loop that will be suitable for even push along bikes. Easy kids skills elements will be set up. I am told the event will run from 9-2. At 9 am, we hope to have enough kids there to have a photo op of the mayor on a bike riding into the new trail, with kids on bikes, coming behind him. TV news coverage possible, but not set up yet. This is great opportunity for SORBA Mid TN and mountain biking exposure. We so appreciate Metro Parks cooperating with us and making this trail possible.

My niece is bringing her two children but her children have soccer games in the morning and will not get there till noon, so encourage folks to come out after their games if they can.

Mark, Tamas, David and Bob completed the kiosk build on Saturday, 9/22/2012. Gravel that Parks delivered was wrong, too course, and had to be changed. New gravel is on site now, and will be spread and compacted this weekend. I have heard there is a scheduled workday on 9/30, but I will not be attending. Parks is having a kiosk sign made and it is on last draft as of today.

I hope many of you are planning to attend the event on Oct 6. Volunteers try to be there by 8:30 or 8:45 am. Mayor to speak at 9:00. Event starts after that. Volunteers sign up on the SORBA Mid TN site. Attendees, would help if you would sign up on that site too, so we know what to expect.

    Guys,

Even if you have no kids, it would sure be great if Mayor Dean could see a lot of mountain bikers in attendance this Saturday morning at 9 am. Metro is becoming very active in helping us get some new trails built inside this county. I saw where Darryl has done a preliminary total on the volunteer hours for Cane Ridge trail so far, and it comes up to over 900 hours, with over 80 volunteers. Thanks to those that helped make this happen. We have lots more trail to build there too so there is still plenty of opportunities for helping in the future.

I plan on coming if the weather does not go bad. If it does rain will everything go forward as planned other than ride? If it is postponed I will prolly go finish my weedeating at Shutes.

I assume so. No talk of canceling. Mayor may have to cut ribbon with rain gear on. I am hoping that it will be half way decent.
