Cane Ridge Trail Building day - Sunday Sept 8

Meeting at the upper parking lot near the far ball field (shorter walk in to the work area).

    Bring:
    Personal Water, Snacks, gloves.
Wear long pants and sturdy shoes.
Prepare with bug repellant if you like.

    Work from 8-12.
Lunch provided after morning trail building work. Ride after.

No experience necessary. SORBA Mid-TN sponsored. Club trailer will be on site with tools for all.

We will be extending Phase 2. We have over 7,000 ft complete. We want to complete 6,200 more feet of trail so that we can get a section of Phase 2 open. This trail is going in pretty fast. Last workday on Aug. 18, two crews built about 1,800 ft.

Hope to see you all there.

    Thought I'd post here, too:

I signed up for 2 to work/ride this Sunday with the thought that I'd bring my 10yr old with me to appreciate how the trails are built. Just want to be sure it's okay to bring younglings.

    thanks!

It is fine to bring him, but just make sure he understands the danger of the tools and surroundings. We do not have many kids show up for work days, so most people are not used to looking out for the little ones.

Also, I would add: The parent needs to be responsible for their child staying focused on the work. We have had some volunteers bring their children and then they forget about them, and they are running around, playing in the woods, playing with dogs, and generally running unsupervised. Younger children need to be supervised fairly closely by the parent so that they are not impeding the work effort and staying safe.

Please understand, I am not trying to discourage you from bringing your child. I agree, it is good for them to see what it takes to build a trail; teaches them how to work, and that you can get satisfaction from hard work.

There are good jobs for kids. For example, they can help smoothing trail once the corridor is open with an action hoe, and dress up the edges and make the finished trail look good. These jobs do no take a lot of strength, but takes some degree of attention.

We had a good workday. About a dozen volunteers. Several of us worked on a bridge. The rest of our crew pushed new corridor forward, then went back and groomed some rough corridor a little nicer. Afterward, had burgers in the parking lot, and rode a couple of laps. Fun and productive day. Thanks to all that participated. Phase 2 early opening getting closer all the time.
