    Heat Woes

Central heat went out Saturday. Repairman said heat exchanger has to be taken out and cleaned of accumulated soot. I am on propane. Also burners rusty and needing replacement.

I cut wood Sunday near my house (I live on 5 acres wooded). Big oak down for about a year. So got about 1 rick cut and split. Started wood stove in basement to augment space heaters upstairs. Able to keep house about 60 degrees, but having to get up at 1:30 am each night and fill the wood stove. Family not too happy.

Kicking myself for not having a wood supply ready. Won't let that happen again.

Repairs due to be made on Wednesday. I sure hope that they follow through. Also, Propane tank down to 25% and have called 3 times and keep getting recording, no real person. I buy from Flamegas. Boo.

A friend of ours is on propane and ran out yesterday - they called multiple times and no one answered or came out - they are on wood as well.

They are pretty peeved because they state 24 hour emergency service but they can not get anything.

Outside of that I hope you get your unit fixed, stay warm..

Bob, tell them to remember the ice storm. My house was down to 40 degrees inside for 10 days. Used candles in the oven to heat water. Cold showers woke me up and I survived. I would've killed for 60 degrees inside, that week. Moral is, I survived and so will you and your family. We can take a lot more than we think we can until we have to. I never complain about the cold. I rode tonight at PWP and never got close to cold. Hope your get fixed up tomorrow. Waiting for repairs sucks.

Still no answer from Flamegas. I called Amerigas, who is the parent company, or at least the supplier to Flamegas. They said that they would notify the national office and have someone call me. Nothing yet.

Repairman is working on unit. When they got the heat exchanger out, found a crack, so new heat exchanger being installed. New burners needed, plus a burner housing box. All in stock except the housing box. The parts are under warranty. The box has to be ordered and will be in Thurs. pm. I told them to install with old rusty box (easy to get to and replace), and then put the new box in on Friday. So I should have heat tonight. Fingers crossed.

With wood stove running and both electric heaters running, I am able to keep core of house about 60-63, and the back bathroom about 50, so that is not too bad. It is a pain getting up at 1:30 am to re-fill wood stove. If electricity was off, I am sure we would be down to 45 in the house with just the wood stove. (wood stove is in the full basement, so pipes are warm and safe (hope)).

Yes, Robert, I remember the ice storm. My power was out for 10 days. But not so cold. I kept house warm with wood stove then, too. With no power, I have no water, since I am on a well for water. I bought a generator just to have water.
