SORBA Mid-TN Workday at Bells Bend March 2

    https://www.facebook.com/IMBASORBAMiddleTN

    9am to 1 pm.

Darryl, Chris, Eric, Mark, Austin and I met last weekend out there and used the new machine to rough cut some wooded sections. I laid out about 1/2 mile of pin flags out in open fields so that we can connect a trail loop back to the beginning. Last year, we built about 1000 ft or so thru dense woods. this trail will eventually wind up to the top of the hill, but Parks wanted a rideable loop ASAP. So we have short-cutted a bit to make this into a loop. We need help getting this loop complete before a planned event in early April.

Right now, Darryl is the only one even slightly competent on the machine. We all have a lot to learn about running it. But it was awesome, punching thru some thick brush thickets. It is going to be a big time saver.

Why aren't we finishing Cane Ridge? Let's get that machine out there next weekend and finish that trail!

Metro wants something open for the event at Bell's Bend on April 5th. Part of the deal for getting PWP was building Cane ridge and Bell's Bend. Needless to say Bell's Bend is behind partly because of the wet winter this year. Hopefully the dirt will be workable on Sunday. After the 5th its back to CR with the machine in tow to put down some miles.

Thanks Austin. I sat in the meeting where we (SORBA Mid TN) agreed to build Bells Bend if Metro would design/build PWP. We have to hold up our end of the bargain. Obviously, we would all rather be working on CR. We want to get some rideable loop opened so it will take pressure off of us to get back and get the first 2 miles of Phase 2 open at CR.

Over at Bells Bend, Metro has contracted to have a long (30+ ft) steel framed, but wood covering mtb bridge built. Also, a paved parking lot and trail head. They have invested a lot there.

And to keep it all in perspective, Metro intends to get mountain bikes and have youth groups from schools and churches come out to learn about the sport. They will man those programs. so it is good for the future of the sport.

Exactly like Bob says. Everyone wants Cane Ridge done, because after all, Bells Bend is just a gateway trail. But remember, something inviting that beginners won't find intimidating is a big deal. I plan to be there, but I'll be a little late - I might get there a little before noon, but that's the best I can do. I'll come out and put my back into it for an hour or so though. Someone who will be there PM me a phone number I'll be able to reach them at so I can catch up with everyone when I get there.

Its going to be cold, possibly wet, and most importantly interfere with my weekly Mexican buffet. But in the spirit of putting up or shutting up, ill be there.

I will be at church from 10 - 11:30 and by the time I change it will be past 1:00 before I can get there...

More than happy to show up later and work. Or work on future work days. The wife would like a beginner trail so I don't mind helping out with it

There may be a few that work that afternoon. Cotharus said he might come and work PM. Contact him on this forum and confirm. Sorba tool trailer will likely pack up at 1pm. But thanx for your interest. We have been scheduling these on Sunday because many of our key people work in retail an Sat. Is a big day.

SORBA Mid-TN Workday at Bells Bend March 2

I am hoping to head out there on Sunday morning from the cane ridge area and will have a couple of empty seats if anyone wants a lift. All the better if you know where you are going, because I have no idea how to get there.
I used to wish I could read people's minds,
Then I got a Facebook account,
    Now I'm over it.

I may take you up on a ride Sam if I can talk wife into it. Bells Bend is pretty far from me in Lebanon so a car pool would be great. I'll find out by Saturday afternoon.

Keep an eye on the forums and Facebook regarding cancellation due to weather. Gotta have dry soil to work so hopefully the rain will hold off until the afternoon and we can get some stuff done.

Went well. Didnt really rain enough to get anything wet until after 12. So we got everything that was cleared via the machine fixed up and buffed except for a few low spots that will need armor. Will have another date probably next weekend, Mar 16th, not sure yet.

Was not there due to knee surgery, but from emails found out that lots was accomplished. In addition to what Austin said, Chris brought his mower out and used it to mow the field trails real close, stubble needs to be removed. A tiller might be the best tool, then rake out and hand tamp.
