Shimano XT M788 free hub issues

So, I'm looking to either buy or have built a set of wheels for my new Superfly. I thought I had made up my mind with WTB i21 KOM rims, Sapim CX-Ray spokes, and Shimano XT M788 hubs...... But upon doing a little research, came upon some reports of the free hub cracking on the 142 x 12 model. Now I'm very hesitant. Thought these would be a good choice, Shimano reliability, 36 poe, and relatively inexpensive, allowing me to splurge with the CX-Ray spokes.
Anyone had experience with these hubs, or familiar with this issue?

I will say up front that I don't have a lot of experience with shimano hubs. I do know that they are very durable. However I would recommend a hub that can be upgraded later without replacing the hub. I would spend the extra money on Chris King or if you don't have that much Hope is a good alternative. My two cents.

I'd save the money on spokes and dump it into the hubs, FWIW. Seems as if Shimano has had a hard time lightening up hubs on the first go around, design wise. If you end up with Shimano, they might hassle you over warranty if you buy grey market.

So I would say, as long as that front derailleur physically fits ... it should work fine as long as it is installed and adjusted properly.
