I live in Williamson County and would love to have a closer trail. I usually only get to ride early in the mornings, so driving distance is a definite concern.

Is this thread ongoing? Does it still need to be sticky?

Yes. Please keep this thread 'sticky'. SR840 is under construction across the property. A planning committee for the park is being formed by the County Mayor. I plan on being on that committee. I've identified another person that I hope will join me as an advocate for the cycling community.

So yes, if you live in Williamson County, please continue to post up.

    Thanks,

    Cooper

Just a quick update. The task force assigned to create a strategy for the use and funding of the park had its first meeting yesterday. We will have a meeting in Oct, Nov, and Dec. Yesterday's meeting consisted of background info, property description, SR840 impacts, etc. Next month we will split up into groups and start doing the dirty work.

I plan on communicating with IMBA leadership very closely over the next few months,

    Regards,

    Coop

Just did some quick and dirty travel time estimates using Google to the park in Leiper's Fork:

    From:
Percy Warner Park = 36 minutes
    Franklin = 27 minutes
    Brentwood = 41 minutes
    Spring Hill = 33 minutes
    Chickasaw Trace = 40 minutes

Would you travel 30 mins for what could be the best trail in Middle Tennessee?

    UPDATE

Take a look at this article, this is the property in question- Tennessean Article

It notes that State Senator Jack Johnson is on the committee. Please use this as an opportunity to express your desire to include mountain biking trails. Just a quick, personal, email expressing your opinion and gratitude would suffice.

Our third of four meetings is tomorrow, so the sooner you contact him the better.

    His email is sen.jack.johnson@legislature.state.tn.us

    Thanks,

    Coop

I live in williamson and mtb regularly. Would definitly ride that trail. Just joined this board today. Would love to get involved witht he Nashville biking community. I posted this on the New member page and will put it on here too:

Hey, I'm graduating from UT-Knoxville and am moving to Nashville in December. Would Love to meet some groups to start riding with (left all my riding buds in Knoxville). Check out my profile on this website. Like testing myself and challenging rides. Would especially like to become a better bike mechanic. Any info on groups or organizations around nahshville would be awesome!

No, I dont know those guys. I have not been involved with any official mountain biking groups but more just have ridin with friends but since I'm moving I need to find new people to ride with and would like to get involved with mtb groups. Sorba seems like a good organization to get involved with.

    The Time Has Come!

OK Folks. I need your help pushing this across the goal line. As it stands, mountain biking has made the list of 10 uses or activities the county wants to strongly consider for Williamson County's new 400 acre park. The landscape architect is meeting with the committee next week to discuss if and how we can implement all 10. We need to tell the committee and county leaders how important it is to have mountain biking in Williamson County.

Please take a look at this list of committee members. Out of respect to them, I don't want to publish their email in an open forum. If you know someone on here, please let me know and I will shoot you their email and telephone number. A quick note from you will make a difference!

If you don't know someone here, then please email County Mayor Rogers Anderson and Parks Superintendent Doug Hood and let them know how much mountain bike trails in Williamson County would mean to you. Both guys are class acts and will listen to what you have to say.

30 seconds of your time can mean hours of sweet, single track bliss.

    Thanks,

    Cooper

What is the official name of the project? I only know it as Williamson County Park at the moment.

I had the same problem. I called it the new 400 acre park in Williamson County Park.

I kept it short and sweet.

    Dear ......

I just wanted to express my desire for mountain biking trails at the new park. Mountain biking is a great family activity that encourages healthy living. We are a very responsible and respectful user group that is underserved in Williamson county.

    Thanks for your time.

It doesn't have an official name. They'll know what you're talking about. Franklin Springs will work for now.

What safetybreak said is perfect. It don't matter if you cain't spel for shet. Something from the heart will get noticed.

Remember, Tuesday is go time. So let's make this happen. Thanks folks!

Also, if you do live in Williamson County, please let that be known to them.

Great meeting yesterday. I don't want to go into too much detail on a public forum, but let's just say I was very impressed with everyone's willingness to work together to do what is best for this beautiful property. The committee gave the blessing to the landscape architect to come back Feb 22 with a preliminary concept plan that would include mountain bike trails.

location of Franklin Springs Park land

I have a topo of the land. It is located to the NE of Bending Chesnut Road, to the SE of Garrison Road, to the west of Davis Hollow Road and to the west of the end of Peach Hollow Road, and to the S of Garrison Springs Road. Generally to the SW of Leipers Fork. SR 840 goes through the middle of it.

Quick update: If you're a facebook follower, you already know this, but our task force concluded last month. The landscape architect presented the final plan which includes mountain bike trails. I just came from the property and have some neat pics to share which I will do on Facebook soon. I will also post the master plan in the coming days. TDOT has asked the county to stay out of the way until they've completed their work on SR840. That's probably at least a year away. There may be a chance to get us early access via another route a little sooner, but we will see. I'll be meeting with IMBA folks and other interested parties about actual trail design, construction, and costs over the course of the next few months. We are getting there. Thank you for your support.

Chris, I got the note from Pat and he's offered to help in any way he can.

    Thanks,

    Cooper

Any word on whether the new annex by City of Brentwood will have a connecting route to the Split log bikeway? There are actually some cut trails in my neighborhood that if linked to the bikeway would make a great 10+ mile ride, half of which could be on dirt. Lots of hills, low use so down trees and overgrowth, but I've seen a few riders in the area lately that may have also ventured onto the the "multi-use" and or linked in the the McKays Mills trails and then ultimately over to the bikeway. The dream would be a link that allows a n MTB to avoid McCewen and also Wilson Pike, lnking it all to residential roads, bikeway and off road trails.

Me plus 2. Besides, we all know if we build a trail in Williamson, there will be lots of traffic from surrounding areas.

Any update? Sure would be nice to not have to drive 45 minutes from Franklin to Montgomery Bell State Park, Chickasaw Trace, or Hamilton Creek.

Someone near and dear to me currently lives in Franklin, but is currently (and very seriously/actively) planning a move far, far away because Franklin doesn't have MTB trails close enough. I live in Huntsville, AL, and I rode Montgomery Bell with this person recently. While it's a beautiful park & great trail network, that's too darn far away for regular Franklin riders, as I know everyone on this thread already knows.

    Several points/recommendations:
    * Facebook community - does this still exist? I couldn't find it in a search
    * I have extensive experience (5 years) launching a youth sports league with land requirements. I *highly* recommend that this interest group not put all its eggs in the public land basket. Politicians like to see tangible evidence of interest, and they tend to strongly prefer private/public partnerships rather than pure hat-in-hand plays.
    * Has anyone approached private land owners in and around Kingfield, or north of Leipers Fork? Sounds like you have enough interest around Franklin that you could even have stakeholder membership monies that could be available to help a landowner with upkeep & maintenance. These need not be huge sums of money - even a few thousand dollars a year plus some sweat equity goes a long ways towards building relationships with landowners.
    * What's the future growth potential for a trail network SW of Leipers Fork?
    * Finally - let's get this done soon, folks. I have trail building/maintenance tools and experience, I will join on weekend trail building events. No better time in the south than winter to build trails.

Hey Folks, Long time no post. I apologize. I wish I had something new to report, but we are still waiting on TDOT to complete there work SR840. That was a pretty adamant stipulation they put on Williamson County in return for a lot of quid pro quo on the roads in the park, etc. I was really hoping to at least mark trails while the leaves where off, but they are even reluctant to allow that. I'll keep pressing.

Just firing this thread back up again now that 840 is complete. I live about 4 miles from where this site is located and would love to help get the trails going, if anyone has an update it would be much appreciated.
