    My new routine

    Here we go:

    60 crunches Target: 120

150 squats (no weight) Target 500

    60 Calf lifts (?) Target: 120

Supermans Not sure if you are supposed to hold it for as long as you can or do reps

    Obliques: need some suggestions

    10 1/2 mile Training ride.

This is done 6 days a week.

Is this a good start? What else might I need to consider?

Sure but explain exactly what it is, what you will need, and if there is an age requirement for the experiment you wanted to conduct.

Buy the book "The Mountain Bikers Training Bible" by Joe Friel. Read it 10 times, follow his wisdom as if it was divine and you will be fast. Best $18 dollars I've ever spent.

For my training I fill a backpack full of bricks and ride 50 miles on my freeride bike. Then I go to Martin's BBQ and refuel.

For my training I attempt to follow Uzzi (General Grant) around with his backpack full of bricks and freeride bike for said 50 miles. Hopefully, not letting him nap during the ride...........Then I normally drive him to Martin's BBQ and refuel.

Read what Holly said. If you do the same thing day after day you will get stale. You need to read the book that was recommended. Then maybe you will understand why you need long rides, shorter rides, faster rides, and most of all, recovery rides. Most of all, have some fun. Do not make this into a job.

Robert is right on.. you have to vary your workouts.. I try to change my weight workouts every month and as for rides some are long and slow and others are short and fast at the end of the day that will make you better, if not you will over train and see your performance fall.

The hardest thing I do is take the 4 weeks off every year between my riding seasons.. I feel like it is very needed..

Holstien is right on about Robert being right on.*
I'd try to choose three or four routines that you can swap out and rotate every month to six weeks.
Here are some oblique exercises that should keep you occupied for a while. The decline twist at the bottom is one of my favorites, except I like to have something like a broomstick, or a light barbell resting on my shoulders (similar to holding a barbell for squats) when I do those.

Mike, you should name one of the future Ewok village trails 'Rock Ridge', or maybe 'Gabby Johnson Pass'.

I think her last name was spelled Schtupp (yes, it's that slang term and yes, that's why they made it her last name...LOL)

I think I can work something out. Maybe I can name the superjump we have in the works, the "Mongo".

"I shall now read from the chapters of Matthew, Mark, Luke and......DUCK!" I love that line.

LOL, I had no idea how to spell that name so I just winged it

Bart: Mongo, why would Hedley Lamarr care about "where the choo-choo go"?

Mongo: Don't know. Mongo only pawn in game of life.

Animal - just DO it! That sounds like a great start to core strength building and fitness in general. Worrying about "getting stale" or whatever shouldn't even be a concern of yours at this point.

You could always add some hanging type exercises for your back like pull-ups, this also works your core and requires no extra equipment. Push-ups are excellent for building shoulder stability as well as the chest and triceps. You can throw some of those in whenever you feel like it. This can help provide upper body endurance for technical trails...
