My Old School 1980's BMX photo's

I grew up racing BMX and thought I would share some of my old pictures. Funny how things don't change 25+ years after these pictures were taken.

    My PK Ripper

I always wanted a PK RIPPER. Had to rock the HUTCH instead.

Man that brings back memories - I used to have a Skyway - remember those? And I had a cousin who had a JMC - it was a real lightweight racing bike, but didn't last long - frame cracked. Then there was a GT World Tour Freestyle bike, and few Haro's along the way...did a lot of crazy stuff with NO helmet or pads..had some chipped teeth, stiches..now I won't ride down the street unless I'm wearing a full face...

I don't think any pictures of me and my bikes have survived from the early 70's till the early 80's when I rode then started to tear down and rebuild my bikes.

I rode BMX on Huffy and Murray bikes that I'd rebuilt, putting BMX bars, short saddles and pads on bikes that were intended for high-rise bars and bananna seats. I didn't do too badly, eventually getting a local Raleigh dealer to comp me a frame that I built up. He more than made up for the frame cost from the parts I bought and broke, then replaced from him until I, like many teenagers, got my license and left cycling behind for several years.

Nice pics.. I raced BMX for years.. Road a Titan Ti-Light real lightweight bike, I then switched to a Schwinn Sting in Black Chrome

I think it is funny, I used to run Bullseye 2 piece cranks if you all remmeber them, and now the Saints and many others use that old 2 piece design and acted like ti was "new" technology..

(I still have my old Bullseye Hubs in yellow... super dope..)

I never raced but I had a fun trail behind my house in the woods and rode my BMX every day.
I had a Murray and a Kent before that. My parents would not buy me the GT Performer I wanted so badly

The Kent was my favorite but I finally cracked the down tube nearly in half and I never wore a helmet either

Yes, back in the day I loved getting air and got plenty of it

    Here's my BMX bike story:

Murray bought PK Ripper, and they went to crap after that. I had a friend whose father was a big-wig at Murray and we got a sweet hookup on a PK Ripper that my brother got for Christmas. I was riding it off the edge of the patio next door (about a 2" drop) and the weld broke at the top tube/seat tube joint. No injury fortunately as I was going slow at the time. Needless to say, my friend's father went ballistic over that! My brother got a replacement bike at no charge with apologies.

I wish he still had that bike. It was amazingly cool at a time when 10-speeds were the hot bikes to own.

    Sweet Pics!

That trophy is taller than you were!! That'd be sweet if trophies were actually to that same scale as adults!!

I rode some street style bmx for a few years between 12 and 15, but never knew about the dirt trails thing. Never even knew there were helmets available for biking back then. Couldn't bunnyhop a curb, but I could barspin!! LOL - Crazy days!

    Great pics Cooper58! Fun stuff!
