    MyCyclingLog.com NMB group

Well I started a group on http://www.mycyclinglog.com for NMB riders. This group will be open to all Nashville, TN area riders that are on the NMB board.

I know some people on here are already using this site to track their rides and mileage. I thought it would be cool to have a group setup on the site.

The group is called "Nashville Mountain Bike" I believe. I'm not yet sure on people can join. I know I can invite riders if I have their email address. If you want to be a part of the group, but can't join, just shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll add you.

    EDIT: March 10, 2010
It looks like if you want to join the group, you need the password. For now I'll just put it here.... if people start joining that aren't local area riders, I guess I'll have to just kick them off!

    The current password is: nmb2010

Thanks Greg! This is pretty cool! Now we can see if Reed gives himself gratuitous mileage the same way he runs up his post count.

    Got it, thanks!

I have logged my miles, but haven't kept up with my hours. I'll start keeping up with them now.

Just wanted to say I put the password up in my first post for now. I'm not sure how long I'll leave it up there, but I don't want to discourage any people from joining in the beginning.

Signed up and logged my trainer time so far. My speeds are just trainer speed, and do not reflect how fast I ride in real life...

Those are impressive miles! You're currently in the lead in the group!

This does raise one of the limitations of the site though. You can classify your miles personally, but the site doesn't do it overall. So when someone posts miles, they aren't classified as road, mtb or trainer. It's not really a big deal. People have already started discussions about trying to have a weighted system for the site, so you could compare better. Like you would be able to compare a mtb bike group's overall miles to a road group's overall miles....since the road miles are potentially easier miles, same with the trainer.

I still think the site is really cool, and it's awesome that you can set up groups! helps keep track of other riders and give some healthy competition.... hehe

    Thanks for joining Thomas!!!

I just signed up and inputed my Spread sheet tracking into the web site.. I like it.. I may start using this instead.. It is pretty detailed, I wondered if I could put the Elliptical in and I could so that is very cool.. I did not put in gym (weights) but I like it for ride tracking..

I've been using this tool since the beginning of the year. I have been adding tags to signify weights, spin, run, etc. I wonder if I can simply add myself to the NMB group without having to reenter all the data?

I'll give it a shot. I like the idea of the group...it adds a touch more motivation.

I was able to simply join the NMB Group...Thanks Greg!

I just looked Grant is a beast..

Anyway I think we will be one of the top 10 groups.. In one month we are less than 200 miles out of bein in the top 10 a few more people (or some winter trainer riders "Grant") sign up...

I really like the group idea thanks for setting that up Greg.. Makes me want to ride more.. but I know you MTB'ers will be beating me this summer..

You guys better let me get in the middle somewhere, I mean, I started this group! come on!! haha

I agree Chris, we should be top 10 here VERY soon, and we only have 7 riders/runners!!

I wish we could run the "Report" function on other group members. It offers a nice breakdown by tag and bike, etc. Am I missing something?

Funny how this motivates. I am sitting here wondering how cold I'll be tomorrow on the road bike for 35 or 40 miles? Chris....you up for a chilly road ride tomorrow?

We're going to HC tomorrow am at 8 for a snow ride. it's looking like a group of 5-8 people.

and no you're not missing anything... there doesn't seem to be a ton of options when it comes to the group, or viewing others data. I think the site is evolving over-time and is run by just 1 guy. Maybe more features will be available in the future.

Yea we've been in 10th place since David Moore joined and added his 280ish miles and we got Terry and Simpson. Also Grant and Chris have racked up some killer miles lately! Check out Grants 40 miler today at Percy Warner!! wooooo

We are just 20 miles under the team ahead of us right now.

Hopefully more people will continue to join up and put their rides in!!!

I added some rides from the last month or so that I never added. It's hard to remember them when you don't add them right away. I know there were more 'fun-rides' I didn't list, but I can't remember when they were, or where they were!! I'm certainly not gonna check back through the board to find em' but it's a good lesson to fill them in right away!!

    Awesome find Chewy!!

Well we are in the top 10 again..

    Stats..

    13 members 3,459 miles at 9.4 MPH

Top millage = Grant at 720 miles at 13.39 (and he will not be caught this year.. ) keep it up man..

I really think we will get more in as summer starts up.. more time to ride...

Lets see how we do for the year.. ie everyone keep logging your miles..

it is real neat to look at. I have all but abbandoned my excel file.. this is much better..

Haha!! I've got the slowest, or almost the slowest mph listed!! I'm finally moving up in milage, but all those 5 hour urban rides really hurt the mph average!!

Grant - wow, that's too many miles! There's no way I'm gonna ride training laps with you anymore!! Speed demon!!

This is great. I've gone in and put in as many rides as I have documented; however, one question, what are the ethics involved with the documentation, i.e. a lot of these I am estimating time and distance, for instance I can remember how many laps I did at a certain place and I know how long that typically takes me but I don't have tenths of a mile and seconds necessarily documented. Same thing with my commutes.

I don't want to get the group in trouble if for some reason we get auditted by the mylog IRS.

    Thanks!

I don't want to get the group in trouble if for some reason we get auditted by the mylog IRS.

    Thanks!
The only bike I do some guessing with is my jump/urban bike and I always low ball the mileage.
Where I usually go for street rides, I know how far it is to get there and back so I put that mileage in and do not consider the "in between" fun stuff.

As long as you're not overestimating your miles I don't guess there is a problem? Anyone else want to chime in?

Hmmm, it's strange, I never really thought too much about the ethics of it all on this one. There's not a prize or anything like that for being the top group, or in the top 10 is there? If there is, I'd say the accuracy should be pretty high - otherwise, it seems quite alright to guestimate. I think most of the people who use the site are probably 'pretty' honest about their miles!? Except maybe the Jason G guy - he pads his miles all the time!!

    Just playin'...

I think, just be as honest as you can, and it'll be close enough!!

I agree, I kinda do the same thing on the urban rides or play time at HC..

I know Hammy is about 10 - 11 miles (at least I think) and on an urban ride I only count the distance of the preceived ride not so much the play..

But in the end, I think a good honest guess is good enough. The only ones that are real accurate are the road bike numbers ... but for me that is like 80% of the millage..

hey I have an idea, lets start a discussion about how the site should add a multiplier for mtb bike miles versus road miles, b/c they are obviously harder....

oh and it needs to add a negative multiplier for trainer miles, cus we all know it's super easy to ride a trainer, those aren't "real" miles!

Daniel, guestimate away... the only think you have to lose is your conscience!! hehe

I try to use my bike computer for most of my rides so it makes the logging pretty easy. Though I still seldom put in seconds in my time. I also use "ride time" and not total time and I imagine not everyone does it this way. That is how I have my bike computer set so I don't bother trying to figure out total time with stops.

I think it would just be too hard to really crack down and keep everyone totally following the same methods. I guess the only real important one is to log all your non-cycling miles in as "Other" so that your "Cycling" miles are truly all cycling. To me if your wheels are moving and you're pedaling, the miles count. I don't get caught up in what type of riding is "harder" per say... it's all riding!! (check out the discussion forum on the mycycling site though for some nice discussions on the subject.)

Feel free to steal stats from other riders too after rides. If you don't know what the exact ride time or miles were, but your rode with me or Reed or someone and we posted our stats for the ride, just steal them and use them as your own! (if you rode with us that day that is! )

thanks for joining the group Daniel!

Alot of times I like to simply spin the front wheel while my bike is in the stand to boost my mileage. Is that wrong of me?

Seriously though thanks for the idea. This thing has been great for keeping me focused. We need to get Mike N. on board...he has beaucoup miles to contribute!

Three years of High School French. What can I say...I guess I am cultured... I think I like your spelling better.

Actually my knowledge of French Language is pretty feeble as I have long ago harvested those brain cells.

Hey Reed, I had to get two rides in today. After I logged my L4 ride, I noticed you were ahead of me, so I went and rode around the block with Sarah. Now I'm back in 4th place!
