Oct. 18th Hamilton Creek Trail Work Day

Oct. 18th Hamilton Creek Trail Work Day
Meet at Ned Shelton Trail Head
9:00 am until maybe 12:00 noon

We will work around some trouble areas, remove some water hogging burms and just catch up on some basic trail hugging (we’re not tree huggers).

No previous trail work experience necessary. We can show you how to keep the trail fun and long lasting.
We will provide tools, water and snacks.

    Bring:
    Sturdy Shoes
    Water bottle or camelback
    Work Gloves
If you have a favorite Pulaski or McCloed, you can bring it too!
Bike & Gear for ride afterwards….

If you need more info or have any input, please post up or contact us at trails@sorbamidtn.org

Question Which one is Ned Shelton?

I always park at the trailhead there by the lake and the BMX park. Is that the place, or is Ned Shelton the other spot over on the Advanced loop? I'm not sure how to get there in my car!

Yep, the Pinnacle trial head. Ned Shelton Rd is across from the entrance you have been using. So turn off Bell Rd the opposite way you usually do then look for the enterance on the left.

Sorry to say I will not be there.

    Good Day of Work

Thanks Big Poppy, Graham and MrToy for coming out for a little trail work. In only 3 1/2 hours we put in 800 ft. of trail and eliminated two of the biggest trouble areas on the whole trail.

#1 routed the landing zone and exit from the "Photo Op Drop" off to the left to allow multiple lines off the rocks. We will add more burm into the turn to offer more flow at speed. Please note the temp green arrows pointing to the left.

#2 The section above will then flow back toward Bell Rd. and the back again. This will eliminate the fall line trail that often will not dry or shed water correctly during the wetter months.

Next we will finish the new corridor as you ascend up the next hill toward the connector tunnel formerly known as "Tony's Loo".

All together we will net an additional 1450 ft. that will be sustainable after a bit of benching is completed. I will post some weekday morning work sessions for those that have abnormal weekdays available.

Go ride Hammy! It is in good shape. New map to follow with extraction points, mile markers and land marks.

Sorry I couldn't make it out to this one. Thanks to everyone who came out and made my "home" trail better

Is the entrance to photo opp. different or do we approach it the same way?

Your approach is the same but slightly wider after we removed the small bent tree from your right just as you line up for the approach. You can now also hit the rock from all 3 drops and still get to the left with less correction. We will add some soil as you move more to the left so you can hold more speed or flow. It is now a small burm but needs it bit more soil and curve to be dialed in.

I had a great time doing this. It was great to get to know you guys and learn a little bit about trail building. Heck, it's just great to be out in the woods all day.

Taylor came out and rode the whole trail with me (and Matt :troopersmilie:, who we picked up in the parking lot). It was great to meet both those guys and to hit the new (and new to me) spots of HC. I've never hit the Advanced side in the clockwise direction before.

I can't make mid week work days, but look forward to more weekend days in the future. Thanks Darryl.

I can't wait to see the changes out there! Kim and I were in Ohio this weekend visiting family -- otherwise I'd have been out there for sure!! Thanks for the work!! Talked with Darryl earlier last week and he mentioned some of the changes that were planned. Can't wait to see it all!!

    new trail

other than the added trail and new landing zone for the photo op drop, we will add some nice rolling grades and burm some of the fun turns. The top soil out there is at a premium, so we will have to take the DR wagon in for some hauling. We will not bench the other side of the hill approaching the tunnel until we finish the first section. I will post a couple week days to work during the first week of November.
