The State Parks Commission has responded negatively to our requests to close or curtail hunting on the Tim's Ford Mountain Bike Trail area. Therefore the Maintainer and I will not continue to maintain the trail. We have not heard from the Park as to their taking over the maintenance and keeping the trail open.

We have been told that the Park will take on trail maintenance in the future; they say they widen the trail to the peninsula and will use herbicide on the grass portion of the peninsula; sounds good ; we will see if it comes true; in the meantime I recommend you call the Visitor Center to check train condition before heading over.

I checked the trail last weekend, walking. I would recommend taking Tim's Ford off the trail listing as it is no longer being maintained, and is impassible
    in the peninsula area.

We have a couple new volunteers working the trail; not the Park; the trail is now open, clean and ready for riding; some minor changes have been made on the peninsula;only a half mile loop at the turn rather than the two plus; waiting on the Park for new signage. Hunting still open; mainly from boats.

; hunting still open in season.

This is Tim's Ford; Yes, it is legit; Unbelievable, but true. You do not just have to ride around and get on solid ground; you can cruise and kill while trolling. Happened just last week down the hill from a friends house. Likened to Duck hunting.

    I like this.
Throw a flotation device on ole Bambi & float him back to the truck.
No more packing his butt through the woods.

We have a new guy taking over trail work; Kevin Wiseman; he relates that the trail is clean and dry right now.

Big Kudos to Kevin. Trail was in great shape. We camped at the park and basically had it to ourselves. One of the few campgrounds that doesn't lock up the bath house in winter. We turned around at the last loop due to daylight ending too early. Had a nice evening to sleep in the woods and a ride at AEDC on the way home. BTW, It's less than 30 minutes away.

What is up with the yellow ribbon? Which section at the end is closed? And, if you ride w/ tubes, expect a flat. Tons of thorns. Glad we're tubeless.

Check with Kevin at c.montoye@comcast.net; or call the park (LOL). Unless Kevin has been working real hard, the trail will be a mess. Two weeks ago he had not started any cleanup after the flood and new growth. AEDC is fine; Perimeter is probably good also; F/M is questionable.

Just checked the Tim's Ford Operating Guide and see the water may again be over the trail in some locations. It is on the trail in spots at 890.

Once again the water is on the trail; making it a waste to clean and not good to ride in any case; TVA has had a hard time this year controlling the lake level; not really sure who is worst, TVA or Park Management.

Leaves and trees cleared from Shoreline Trail at Tims Ford State Park on Thursday 12/19/2013. Thank you Denny Fulcher and the Mach Tenn Running Club for the leaf blower.

No updates on Tim's Ford lately; Maintainer and Sgt Jim were out a month or so back and bailed out early. Hate to think of the work Maintainer and I put in on that trail and see Park Management put it to nought.

We bailed because the temperature was below freezing, ice had spurted up out of the ground and with the step climbs that made for a more difficult ride than we wanted. As far as trail maintenance goes the trail was in good shape. The Park Management maintains the beginners loop along with the hiking trails and Kevin Wiseman maintains the remainder of the mtb trail. There are a lot of new signs and trail markers installed along the trail.

So let us know when you complete the full loop; Kevin has not posted for months; Is the beginners loop that easy ; last time I walked a . few hundred feet from the overlook, it had not been maintained for some time. Is the Park going to do anything positive? Have they stopped hunting? gained us access to the peninsula? I would like a complete , unbiased report by someone who has done the complete ride recently. Anyone want to hike it with me soon? Signs and Trail Markers are subterfuge. Just sucker you in. See The Fox and the Raven.

Walked out to DD crossing this morning; pretty obvious no one has ridden the trail in some time; the church-overlook loop is pretty clean and rideable; past Wallace crossing a lot of windfall and cobbles; a blower and foldable saw would get everything to DD in a couple hours; the DD crossing is badly eroded and needs some hand work to smooth out; pretty normal for this time of year; some flagging around the crossing; perhaps the Park is thinking of a bridge?

Tim's is now as clean and good as it has been in a while; Took a week and a little effort but a good result; Kevin's bypass of the fields at the peninsula needs to be seen to be appreciated; especially as the fields are now back to a briar patch.

Any one been out to the trail lately? Just wandered what it was like. Gonna be down in the area Saturday and saw AEDC is closed for hunting, so I thaught this would be a good alternative.

    thanks...

Tims Ford State Park (Shoreline Trail)

    Trails Update ~~

Tims Ford has recently been awarded a $42,000 grant by the Recreational Trails Program. We will be using this grant to recut the Ray Branch Shoreline trail, construct a back country campsite on the trail, upgrade our island camp sites, and maintain our other trails with better equipment. This must be completed by the end of 2017.
We are looking for volunteers interested in trail building or in learning trial work to join us in this project. All hours volunteered will be kept on file at the park and can be used for community service, TN promise, TN Naturalist hours, etc. Stop by the park office or call us if you would like to help out!

Few questions; Are you redoing the bike trail as a hike only trail? Are you planning on having a hunting prohibition in the trail/ camping areas? How many bridges are you planning?
